Explore the history and spiritual legacy of Hacı Bektaş, a teacher of the Bektashi interpretation of Islam. This Sufi belief has followers in Türkiye, Greece, Albania and other Balkan countries and is described on the current page as a more liberal approach to Islam. Bektashi people are also known as Alevi, meaning followers or lovers of Ali; the English term given is Alevite.
The tour begins at 9:30 AM with a visit to Gülşehir Open Palace, known for its large mushroom-shaped rock and extensive caves. Continue to the town of Hacıbektaş, walk through the town and visit the Hacıbektaş Museum, where the monumental tomb of Hacı Bektaş can be seen.
After lunch, visit Delikli Taş, Dedebağ and Beştaşlar, described as the Five Witness Stones. On the return toward Göreme, explore Özkonak Underground City, a quieter underground site with fewer tourists. Return to the hotel at approximately 6:00 PM.
